TREASURY CHAMBERS.

20 February 1912.

I am directed by the Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury to acquaint you, for the information of

Mr. Secretary Harcourt, that They have received an applica- tion for the award of pension to Mr. Henry Bridgman Henderson Lethbridge on his retirement from the post of Governor at

Wormwood Scrubs Prison on account of ill-health.

Mr. Lethbridge claims that the undermentioned periods of service prior to his service as Prison Governor should be included in the calculation of the award :-

S

Gold Coast Constabulary October 1886 to August 1891

Local Commandant of

Police, Cyprus

Superintendent, Victoria

Gaol, Hongkong,

* August 1891 to July 1892

In July 1892 to July 1897.

I am to inquire whether the foregoing statement

is correct and whether Mr. Lethbridge's service in the

offices in question was service qualifying for the grant

of superannuation allowance or gratuity. If so, his case

appears to fall under the provisions of the Superannuation Act, 1892, and My Lords would be glad to be informed what would have been the awards to him, calculated in the manner prescribed in Numbers, 5, 6 and 7 of the Rules of 31st July 1911, made under Section 7 of the Superannuation Act, 1909,

Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.
